Zhengzhou Open: Kasatkina advances to quarter-finals

Russia’s Daria Kasatkina, the No 8 seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Zhengzhou Open by winning against Chinese wildcard Zhuoxuan Bai 6-2, 6-4 at Zhongyuan Tennis Training Base Management Center on Thursday.

Kasatkina, ranked No 12 in the world, will face Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 4 seed, next. Jabeur holds a 5-2 edge over Kasatkina in career head-to-head, having won their last five matches in a row.

The Russian, who is now through to her eighth quarter-final of the 2023 season, defeated Hungarian lucky loser Timea Babos (6-1, 7-6 (7)) earlier in the week.

In the previous round of the Zhengzhou tournament, Bai, ranked No 117, beat German lucky loser Tamara Korpatsch (1-6, 7-6 (3), 6-1).
