Wuhan Open: Pegula eases into last 16 as Potopova retires
Jessica Pegula benefited from the abandonment of Anastasia Potapova (6-2, 2-0) on Wednesday. She’ll play Chinese Xinyu Wang in the next round
American Jessica Pegula, the second seed, moved into the last 16 of the Wuhan Open when Russian Anastasia Potapova retired on Wednesday at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center.
Pegula, ranked No 3, led 6-2, 2-0 when Potapova, ranked No 38, pulled out at the Optics Valley International Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon.
The American will play Chinese Xinyu Wang next.
The Russian edged out American wildcard Katie Volynets (5-7, 6-3, 7-5) in the previous round of the Wuhan tournament.
