Chinese Qinwen Zheng moved into the last 16 of the National Bank Open when Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 5 seed, retired at the Aviva Centre in Toronto on Wednesday night.
Zheng, ranked No 51, led 6-1, 2-1 when Jabeur, ranked No 5, pulled out on Wednesday night at the Aviva Centre in Toronto.
The 19-year-old Chinese will face the winner of the match between Canadian Bianca Andreescu and Frenchwoman Alize Cornet next.
Qinwen Zheng edged out Canadian wildcard Rebecca Marino (3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4) in the previous round of the Canadian Open.
