Pliskova hammers Anisimova in Toronto
Karolina Pliskova beat Amanda Anisimova 6-1, 6-1 on Wednesday evening. She’ll face Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 3 seed, in the next round
Czech Karolina Pliskova, the No 14 seed, advanced to the last 16 of the National Bank Open by beating American Amanda Anisimova 6-1, 6-1 at the Aviva Centre in Toronto on Wednesday evening.
Pliskova, ranked No 14, will play Greek Maria Sakkari, the No 3 seed, next.
The former world No 1 needed just 53 minutes to improve to 5-1 lifetime against 20-year-old Anisimova.
In the previous round of the Canadian Open, the Czech won against Barbora Krejcikova (6-3, 6-4).
Anisimova, ranked No 22, defeated Canadian wildcard Carol Zhao (6-1, 6-3) in the previous round of the Canadian Open.
