WTA rankings: Collins cracks top 20, Jabeur continues slide
Danielle Collins continues her surge up the WTA rankings, while Camilla Osorio also leaps forward and Ons Jabeur continues to fall
Danielle Collins continues her brilliant start to what she had declared will be her final year of tennis, climbing to No 15 in the WTA rankings this Monday.
The American is on a 13-match winning streak that has propelled her back inside the world’s top 20 for the first time since January 2023. Camilla Osorio also sees a big boost to her ranking after winning the Bogota Open for the second time, while Ons Jabeur continues her slide in the WTA rankings.
Collins on track for top 10 soon
With titles in Miami and Charleston over the past fortnight, Collins is now less than 1000 points away from the world’s top 10.
The American has a career-high ranking of No 7 in the world, which she achieved in 2022 after making the final of the Australian Open at the start of the year. Health issues and erratic form have seen her drop out of the picture for the majority of the past two years, until now, that is.
World No 10 Jelena Ostapenko sits on 3438 points, just 799 points ahead of Collins. At the rate the 30-year-old is going, she’ll overtake the Latvian in a matter of weeks.
Jabeur continues to plummet
One of Collins’ victims in Charleston was Tunisian Ons Jabeur, who has had a torrid time on the WTA Tour since making the Wimbledon final in July 2023.
Jabeur had one strong week picking up a title in Ningbo in September 2023, but other than that, has largely suffered early exits. As a result, the former world No 2 now slips to No 9 in the world. Jabeur is in danger of leaving the top 10 in the WTA rankings for the first time since January 2022.
Other players seeing a hit to their rankings this Monday are Tatjana Maria, who falls 20 places to No 66, Peyton Stearns who drops 15 places to No 80, and Belinda Bencic, who falls 28 spots to No 90 in the world.
On the other hand, Camila Osorio’s title on the weekend sees her leap 22 spots to No 63 in the WTA rankings, while Taylor Townsend also surges 11 places to No 57, and Daria Saville reenters the world’s top 100 with a 14 place increase.
