There’s a new name in the women’s top 10 this week, with Russia’s Mirra Andreeva achieving an early milestone in her career thanks to her victory in Dubaion

The 17-year-old, who won her first WTA 1000 in style with wins over Marketa Vondrousova, Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina along the way, climbs five places to No 9 in the latest WTA rankings, released on Monday.

The Russian is the youngest woman to break into the top 10 since 2007 (Nicole Vaidisova) and is just the seventh woman in the last 30 years to be a top-10 player before turning 18, joining a select group including Martina Hingis, Venus Williams, Anna Kournikova, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova and Vaidosova.

Tauson on the rise

Denmark’s Clara Tauson was a junior world No 1 and now she’s making big moves on the WTA Tour.

The Dane won her first title in Auckland in January, reached the semis in Linz and made the final in Dubai, losing only to an inspired Andreeva. Her efforts moved her up 15 places to a career-high 23.

Aryna Sabalenka maintains a healthy lead over Swiatek at the top and despite taking a rest after her Australian Open triumph, Madison Keys moves up one place to another new career-high ranking, now into the No 5 spot.
