WTA Hobart: Yuan overcomes Wang to make quarters

Qualifier Yue Yuan reached the quarter-finals of the Hobart International by beating No 4 seed Xinyu Wang 7-5, 6-3 at the Hobart ’s Domain Tennis Centre on Wednesday night.

Yuan, ranked No 73, will face the winner of the match between No 5 seed Marie Bouzkova and Kazakh qualifier Yulia Putintseva next.

In the previous round of the Hobart tournament, Yue Yuan edged out American Sloane Stephens (6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (5)).

Wang, ranked No 34, won against Australian wildcard Olivia Gadecki (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) in the first round of the Hobart tournament.
