WTA Hobart: Second seed Mertens to meet Kudermetova in quarters
The Belgian won against Renata Zarazua 6-4, 6-3 in the second round on Wednesday
Belgian Elise Mertens, the second seed, beat Mexican lucky loser Renata Zarazua 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Hobart International on Wednesday.
Mertens, ranked No 34, will play Russian Veronika Kudermetova next at Hobart’s Domain Tennis Centre. This is the Belgian’s fifth quarter-final appearance in Hobart.
Mertens won against Spanish qualifier Nuria Parrizas Diaz (6-3, 6-1) in the previous round of the tournament.
Earlier in the week, Zarazua, ranked No 76, won against Italian lucky loser Lucia Bronzetti (6-4, 6-3).
