Belgian Elise Mertens, the top seed and two-time champion here, advanced to the second round of the Hobart International by defeating American Danielle Collins 6-2, 6-3 at the Hobart’s Domain Tennis Centre on Monday.
Mertens, ranked No 29 in the world, will face Slovak qualifier Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova next.
