Coco Gauff began her WTA Finals campaign in the best way possible, defeating compatriot Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-2 in the orange group.

This is Gauff’s third appearance at the WTA Finals, and so far she has improved on her display every year – knocked out in the group stage in 2022 and losing in the semi-final in 2023.

Pegula made the final last year, losing to Iga Swiatek, but this was not her finest performance. Her game was riddled with errors upon which Gauff happily capitalised.
