Zhu defeats Kudermetova in straight sets in Zhuhai
Lin Zhu got a straight-sets win to begin her first-ever Elite Trophy campaign
Lin Zhu (Zuma/Panoramic)
Lin Zhu won the meeting of two WTA Elite Trophy debutantes, beating Veronika Kudermetova 7-6 (5), 6-1 and in the process claiming her fifth Top 20 win of the year.
The Chinese star has enjoyed some success in Asia this year, winning the title at Hua Hin and reaching the final in Osaka.
Still, Kudermetova came into the tournament not long after her first-ever hard court singles title in Tokyo, where she beat Jessica Pegula in the final at the start of October.
This was the first match in the Rose Group, with Liudmila Samsonova the other player in the draw.
