WTA Dubai: Andreeva beats former Wimbledon champ Vondrousova to reach last 16

Russian Mirra Andreeva, the No 12 seed, defeated Marketa Vondrousova 7-5, 6-0 to reach the last 16 of the Dubai Open at The Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Wednesday.

Andreeva, ranked No 14, will play American Peyton Stearns, who upset Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 7 seed, in another match today.

In the previous round of the tournament, the 17-year-old Russian won against Armenian Elina Avanesyan (6-2, 6-1).

Vondrousova, ranked No 39, beat French wildcard Caroline Garcia (6-2, 6-2) earlier in the week.
