WTA Brisbane: Sabalenka beats Andreeva to reach final

The world No 1 will face Russian qualifier Polina Kudermetova for the title

World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka, from Belarus, defeated Russian teen Mirra Andreeva, the No 8 seed, in straight sets to reach the final of the WTA Brisbane International on Saturday.

Sabalenka won 6-3, 6-2 at the Queensland Tennis Centre for her third win over Andreeva in four career meetings.

Sabalenka, ranked No 1, will face Russian qualifier Polina Kudermetova for the title on Sunday. It will be the Belarusian’s 32nd career singles final. Since 2023, she has won 25 of her last 26 matches in Australia, with her only loss coming in last year’s Brisbane final to Elena Rybakina.

Ahead of her win today, the Belarusian defeated Mexican Renata Zarazua (6-4, 6-0), Kazakh Yulia Putintseva, the No 15 seed (7-6 (2), 6-4) and Marie Bouzkova (6-3, 6-4).

Andreeva, ranked No 16, beat Anna Blinkova (6-4, 6-4), No 12 seed Linda Noskova (6-3, 6-0) and Tunisian Ons Jabeur (6-4, 7-6 (2)) earlier in the week.
