WTA Brisbane: Andreeva beats Jabeur to move into last four

The Russian teen improves to 2-0 lifetime against the former world No 2 from Tunisia

Russian teen Mirra Andreeva, the No 8 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the WTA Brisbane International with a win over former world No 2 Ons Jabeur on Friday.

The 17-year-old scored a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win over Jabeur for her second win in as many matches over the Tunisian. Andreeva came from 5-3 down and saved two set points in the second set to close the match in straight sets.

Andreeva, ranked No 16 in the world, will play the winner of the match between world No 1 Aryna Sabalenka and Marie Bouzkova next. It will be the fourth semi-final of her young career on the main WTA Tour.

Ahead of her win today, the 17-year-old Russian won against Anna Blinkova (6-4, 6-4) and No 12 seed Linda Noskova (6-3, 6-0).

Jabeur, ranked No 42 and playing her first event since August, beat Chinese Saisai Zheng (7-6 (5), 6-4), Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, the No 14 seed (6-3, 6-2) and Armenian Elina Avanesyan (6-4, 1-6, 6-4) earlier in the week.
