WTA Auckland: Unstoppable Gauff powers into final
Coco Gauff won against Emma Navarro 6-3, 6-1 on Saturday night and will play the winner of Xiyu Wang and Elina Svitolina in the final
Top seed Coco Gauff reached the final of the Auckland Open by defeating No 4 seed Emma Navarro 6-3, 6-1 at the ASB Tennis Arena on Saturday night.
In a repeat of 2023 when Gauff won the Auckland title without dropping a set, the 19-year-old has once again made her way through to the final in New Zealand unscathed. This time her victim was American Navarro, who was blown off the court by a big serving display by her younger compatriot.
Gauff won 28 of 30 points on her first serve, racking up 10 aces across the course of the match and only losing four games.
Gauff, ranked No 3, will face the winner of the match between Chinese Xiyu Wang and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, the second seed, next.
In the previous rounds of the Auckland tournament, Coco Gauff won against Claire Liu (6-4, 6-2), qualifier Brenda Fruhvirtova (6-3, 6-0) and Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva, the No 8 seed (6-1, 6-1).
Navarro, ranked No 31, beat Linda Fruhvirtova (2-6, 6-4, 6-2), Russian Elina Avanesyan (6-1, 6-2) and Croat Petra Martic, the No 7 seed (6-4, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
