American Madison Keys won the WTA Adelaide International by beating top seed and countrywoman Jessica Pegula in three sets on Saturday.

Keys won 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 at the Memorial Drive Tennis Park to win her second Adelaide title and her ninth career WTA singles title. It was her second win over Pegula in three career meetings and her 30th career top 10 win.

“I’m looking forward to what’s to come this season. I haven’t been back since 2020. I was lucky enough to lift the trophy then,” Keys said during the trophy presentation. “Now I’m back and I’m holding it again. I feel like I should just keep coming back to Adelaide.”

In the previous rounds of the tournament, Keys, ranked No 20, defeated Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia (6-2, 6-1), Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 8 seed (3-6, 6-4, 6-3), Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 3 seed (6-1, 6-3) and Russian Liudmila Samsonova (5-7, 7-5, 3-0 ret.).

Pegula, ranked No 7, defeated Greek lucky loser Maria Sakkari (6-4, 6-1), lucky loser Ashlyn Krueger (6-4, 2-0 ret.) and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (7-6 (4), 6-3) earlier in the week.
