WTA Adelaide: Kasatkina through to final as Pegula withdraws
The Russian will face Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 6 seed, in the final
Russian Daria Kasatkina advanced to the final of the Adelaide Open after American Jessica Pegula, the second seed, withdrew due to GI illness before the match on Friday at the Memorial Drive Tennis Park.
Kasatkina, ranked No 15, received a walkover for the second match in a row – her quarter-final opponent Laura Siegemund, also withdrew from the match. The Russian will face Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 6 seed, next.
Earlier in the week, the Russian beat American qualifier Claire Liu (6-4, 6-3), qualifier Anna Kalinskaya (5-7, 6-4, 7-5) and German Laura Siegemund (walkover).
Pegula, ranked No 5, won against lucky loser Bernarda Pera (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) and edged out Russian qualifier Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (6-7 (1), 7-5, 6-4) earlier in the tournament.
