WTA Adelaide: Badosa goes down to lucky loser Pera in first match since Wimbledon
Bernarda Pera won against Paula Badosa 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Monday and will face second seed Jessica Pegula in the next round
Former world No 2 Paula Badosa’s comeback to the tour got off to an unsuccessful start as the Spaniard went down to American lucky loser Bernarda Pera in the first round of the Adelaide Open.
Badosa, who was struggling with a back injury for most of 2023, was playing her first event since Wimbledon last year, and she started strong to win the first set 6-3.
However, Pera fought back to take the next two sets and complete the 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in just under two hours at the Memorial Drive Tennis Park on Monday.
Pera, ranked No 69, will face second seed Jessica Pegula in the second round.
