WTA Adelaide: Alexandrova saves four matchpoints to oust Australian Open semi-finalist Linette
Ekaterina Alexandrova edged out Magda Linette 3-6, 7-6 (8), 7-5 on Tuesday and will play Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 8 seed, in the next round
Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova reached the second round of the Adelaide Open by edging out the Poland’s Magda Linette after saving four matchpoints in the second set of their contest at the Memorial Drive Tennis Park on Tuesday.
Alexandrova eventually emerged a 3-6, 7-6 (8), 7-5 winner over Linette, who reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Australian Open, in two hours and 49 minutes.
The Russian, ranked No 21, will face countrywoman Veronika Kudermetova, the No 8 seed, next.
