Venus Williams defeated Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 7-5 on Monday evening. She’ll play the winner of the match between Chinese Qinwen Zheng and Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the next round

American wildcard Venus Williams moved into the first round of the Western & Southern Open by defeating Russian Veronika Kudermetova, the No 16 seed, 6-4, 7-5 at the Linder Tennis Family Center in Cincinnati on Monday evening.
Venus Williams will face the winner of the match between Chinese Qinwen Zheng and Belarusian qualifier Aliaksandra Sasnovich next.
