Western & Southern Open: Samsonova advances to last 16

Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 10 seed, moved into the last 16 of the Western & Southern Open by winning against Pole Magda Linette 7-6 (10), 6-1 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Thursday.
Samsonova, ranked No 17, will face Russian lucky loser Elina Avanesyan next.
Ahead of her victory, the Russian beat Chinese Xinyu Wang (6-4, 6-4).
Linette, ranked No 43, edged out Katie Boulter (2-6, 6-0, 7-5) in the previous round of the Cincy Open.
