Western & Southern Open: Pliskova edges past Tomova to reach second round

Karolina Pliskova reached the second round of the Western & Southern Open by defeating Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova 7-6 (3), 7-6 (3) at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati.
Pliskova, ranked No 45, will play the winner of the match between American Emma Navarro, the No 11 seed, and Russian Mirra Andreeva next.
