WTA Cincinnati: Pavlyuchenkova upsets 17th seed Haddad Maia to reach second round
The Russian will face former world No 1 Caroline Wozniacki, of Denmark, in the second round

Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova beat Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 17 seed, 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3 to move into the second round of the WTA Western & Southern Open on Wednesday.
This was the Russian’s fourth win in as many over matches over Haddad Maia, including her third of the 2024 season.
Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 28, will play Danish wildcard Caroline Wozniacki at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati. Wozniacki holds a 7-1 edge in career head-to-head but the players have met only twice (both times in 2017 which the Dane won) since 2012.
