Belgian Elise Mertens reached the second round of the Western & Southern Open by winning against American Madison Keys, the No 15 seed, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at the Linder Tennis Family Center in Cincinnati on Wednesday night.
Mertens, ranked No 29, will play Marie Bouzkova next.
