Western & Southern Open: Linette gets past Boulter to reach second round
The Pole will meet the winner of the match between Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 10 seed, and Chinese Xinyu Wang in the next round
Poland’s Magda Linette advanced to the second round of the Western & Southern Open by edging out Katie Boulter 2-6, 6-0, 7-5 in Cincinnati on Tuesday.
The pole led 4-1 in the final set before Boulter mounted a comeback to 4-4. The Brit also saved two matchpoints in the 10th game to level the set at 5-5 but was unable to save a third while trailing 6-5 in the final set.
Linette, ranked No 43, will face the winner of the match between Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 10 seed, and Chinese Xinyu Wang next at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
