Anna Kalinskaya, the No 13 seed, overcame Katerina Siniakova 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the second round of the Western & Southern Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Wednesday afternoon.
Kalinskaya retired from her third-round match in Toronto last week, but she did well to recover from a slow start in this one. The 16th-ranked Russian will next face Spaniard and Washington, D.C. champion Paula Badosa.
