Badosa beats Pavlyuchenkova at Western & Southern Open
Paula Badosa beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in straight sets on Sunday in Cincinnati. Badosa will go up against Jessica Pegula in the semis.
Paula Badosa defeated Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals of the Western & Southern Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Sunday night.
Badosa, ranked No 37, will play American Jessica Pegula, the No 6 seed, next.
In the previous rounds the Spaniard got past American wildcard Peyton Stearns (6-2, 7-5), Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 13 seed (6-3, 6-2) and Kazakh Yulia Putintseva (6-4, 6-4).
Pavlyuchenkova, ranked No 28, beat Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, the No 17 seed (4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-3), Dane wildcard Caroline Wozniacki (7-5, 6-4) and Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 7 seed (7-5, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
