Western & Southern Open: Badosa books spot in quarter-finals, defeating Putintseva

Spaniard Paula Badosa reached the last eight of the Western & Southern Open by beating Kazakh Yulia Putintseva 6-4, 6-4 at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati on Friday night.

Badosa, ranked No 37, will play the winner of the match between Chinese Qinwen Zheng, the No 7 seed, and Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova next.

The Spaniard won against American wildcard Peyton Stearns (6-2, 7-5) and Russian Anna Kalinskaya, the No 13 seed (6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.

In the previous rounds of the Cincy Open, Putintseva, ranked No 33, won against qualifier Harriet Dart (4-6, 6-0, 6-1) and edged out American Coco Gauff, the second seed (6-4, 2-6, 6-4).
