Peyton Stearns won against wildcard Clervie Ngounoue 6-3, 7-6 (3) to advance to the second round of the Washington Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center on Tuesday evening.
Stearns, ranked No 51, will play wildcard Emma Raducanu next.
