Washington Open: Raducanu knocks out No 8 seed Mertens
Emma Raducanu edged out Elise Mertens 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 on Tuesday night. She’ll play the winner of the match between wildcard Clervie Ngounoue and Peyton Stearns in the next round

Wildcard Emma Raducanu reached the second round of the Washington Open by edging out Belgian Elise Mertens, the No 8 seed, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center on Tuesday night.
Raducanu, ranked No 89, will face the winner of the match between wildcard Clervie Ngounoue and Peyton Stearns next.
