Jabeur withdraws from Washington Open, handing Montgomery quarter-final berth
A shoulder injury forced Ons Jabeur to withdraw from the Mubadala Citi DC open on Thursday
American wildcard Robin Montgomery moved into the quarter-finals of the Washington Open after Tunisian Ons Jabeur, the No 4 seed, withdrew before the match at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center on Thursday night.
Jabeur issued a statement to the tournament on Thursday evening, saying:
“Regrettably, I must withdraw from the Mubadala Citi DC Open due to a shoulder injury I have recently sustained.
“After consulting with my doctor, it has been determined that participating will aggravate my condition.”
Montgomery, ranked No 131, will play the winner of the match between Marie Bouzkova and American Taylor Townsend next.
The 19-year-old American beat Shelby Rogers (7-5, 6-3) in the previous round of the Washington tournament.
