Washington Open: Badosa makes first final since January 2022
Paula Badosa won against Caroline Dolehide 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday evening and will play the winner of the match between Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, and Marie Bouzkova for the title
Spanish wildcard Paula Badosa won against American Caroline Dolehide 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the final of the Washington Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center on Saturday evening.
It was a strong serving performance that saw Badosa through to her first WTA Tour final since January 2022, with the Spaniard winning 89 percent of points on her first serve and saving all three break points she faced across the match.
Badosa, ranked No 62, will play Marie Bouzkova for the title.
Ahead of her victory, the Spaniard beat American Sofia Kenin (6-1, 7-6 (6)), Russian Liudmila Samsonova, the No 3 seed (6-2 ret.) and wildcard Emma Raducanu (4-6, 7-5, 6-4).
Dolehide, ranked No 49, defeated Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko (6-1, 3-6, 6-4), Russian Daria Kasatkina, the second seed (2-6, 7-5, 6-0) and qualifier Amanda Anisimova (7-6 (5), 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
