Washington Open: Azarenka battles past Wang to move into last eight

Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, the No 6 seed, advanced to the last eight of the Washington Open by winning against Chinese Yafan Wang 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-3 at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center.

Azarenka, ranked No 20, will face Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, the top seed, next.

The 35-year-old Belarusian beat American qualifier Hailey Baptiste (7-6 (6), 7-6 (3)) in the previous round of the Washington tournament.

In the first round of the Washington tournament, Wang, ranked No 73, won against Karolina Pliskova (5-7, 6-3, 6-0).
