Qualifier Amanda Anisimova beat Sloane Stephens 6-3, 7-5 to reach the second round of the Washington Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center on Monday night.
Anisimova, ranked No 176, will face Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, the No 7 seed, next.
