The 42-year-old Williams has not played since early January when she lost in the second round of the ASB Classic in Auckland.
Now ranked No 701 in the world, Williams has played a very limited schedule over the past few years due to injuries. She played only four events in 2022, nine in 2021 and eight in 2020.
Venus will be the only Williams sister playing on grass this year with younger sister Serena currently pregnant with her second child.
