Veneto Open: Eala reaches last eight
Alexandra Eala beat Giorgia Pedone 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday and will play the winner of the match between Ukrainian Katarina Zavatska and Italian Sara Errani, the No 4 seed, in the next round

Filipino Alexandra Eala defeated Italian wildcard Giorgia Pedone 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the last eight of the Veneto Open promoted by Regione del Veneto on Thursday afternoon.
Eala, ranked No 169, will face the winner of the match between Ukrainian Katarina Zavatska and Italian Sara Errani, the No 4 seed, next.
Ahead of her victory, the 19-year-old Filipino won against Frenchwoman Carole Monnet (6-3, 7-5).
Pedone, ranked No 307, benefited from the abandonment of American Hailey Baptiste, the No 6 seed (6-1, 1-0) in the previous round.
