German Tatjana Maria, the top seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Veneto Open by winning against Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, the No 8 seed, 6-3, 7-5 at the Tennis Club Gaiba on Friday.
Maria, ranked No 66, will play the winner of the match between Serb Olga Danilovic, the No 4 seed, and Chinese Yue Yuan, the No 6 seed, next.
The 35-year-old German beat Swiss Ylena In-Albon (6-3, 6-4) and Italian wildcard Lisa Pigato (6-3, 6-3) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Gaiba tournament, Wickmayer, ranked No 117, defeated Australian Priscilla Hon (7-5, 6-4) and edged out American Sofia Kenin (3-6, 6-4, 7-5).
