Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva advanced to the quarter-finals of the Trophée Clarins by edging out American Katie Volynets 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 on Wednesday.
Gracheva, ranked No 88, will face the winner of the match between Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova and second seed Katie Boulter next.
The Frenchwoman benefitted from the abandonment of Romanian Ana Bogdan, the No 7 seed (4-0) in the previous round.
In the 32, Volynets, ranked No 109, won against Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich (7-5, 6-3).
