Transylvania Open: Tig grinds out victory over Matoula
Patricia Maria Tig beat Martha Matoula 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3 on Monday evening. She’ll play Russian qualifier Ekaterina Makarova in the next round
Romanian Patricia Maria Tig moved into the second round of the Transylvania Open by winning against Greek qualifier Martha Matoula 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3 at the BTarena in Cluj-Napoca on Monday evening.
In a match that lasted over three hours, Tig survived 14 double faults and a second serve that she won only 33 percent of the time, to scrape past her higher ranked opponent and earn a spot in the second round at her home tournament.
Tig, ranked No 462, will face Russian qualifier Ekaterina Makarova next.
