Chinese Xiyu Wang, the No 7 seed, advanced to the last four of the Transylvania Open by Verdino by defeating Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz 6-1, 7-6 (5) on Friday evening.
Wang, ranked No 59, will face Italian Jasmine Paolini next.
The 21-year-old Chinese won against Romanian Jaqueline Cristian (6-3, 6-3) and edged out Romanian wildcard Elena-Gabriela Ruse (6-1, 6-7 (8), 7-6 (6)) in the previous rounds.
Earlier in the tournament, Parrizas Diaz, ranked No 75, won against Romanian wildcard Irina Bara (6-1, 7-5) and Hungarian Dalma Galfi (6-1, 6-4).
