WTA Toronto: Townsend dominates Stakusic, into the last 16
Taylor Townsend cruised against Marina Stakusic 6-0, 6-2 on Thursday evening. She’ll play the winner of the match between Spaniard Paula Badosa and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 4 seed, in the next round
American lucky loser Taylor Townsend won against Canadian wildcard Marina Stakusic 6-0, 6-2 to advance to the last 16 of the WTA National Bank Open at the Aviva Centre on Thursday.
Townsend, ranked No 71, will face Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, the No 4 seed, next.
In the previous round of the WTA National Bank Open, the American benefited from the retirement of Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, the No 16 seed (6-3, 3-1).
Stakusic, ranked No 160, edged out Russian qualifier Erika Andreeva (6-7 (5), 6-1, 6-4) in the first round of the Rogers Cup.
