Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 15 seed, reached the second round of the WTA National Bank Open by winning against Japanese lucky loser Nao Hibino 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 at the Aviva Centre on Wednesday night.
Fernandez, ranked No 25, will play American qualifier Ashlyn Krueger next.
