Linda Noskova beat Japanese lucky loser Himeno Sakatsume 6-2, 7-5 to reach the last 16 of the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament on Tuesday night.
The Czech had been due to play third seed Elena Rybakina, but the Kazakh pulled out on Monday, having criticised the WTA for bumping her out of a first-round bye in order to grant two “performance byes to players ranked below her who had done well the previous week.
Noskova, ranked No 44, will play the Russian, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova next.
