Tokyo: Top seed Qinwen into last eight, faces Fernandez next

China’s Zheng Qinwen, the top seed, advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA Toray Pan Pacific Open by defeating Japanese Moyuka Uchijima 7-5, 6-0 at the Ariake Coliseum on Thursday.

Qinwen, ranked No 7, will play Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 8 seed, next.

In the previous round of the tournament, Uchijima, ranked No 57, edged out wildcard Mika Stojsavljevic (6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (6)).
