Tokyo Open: Samsonova advances to last four

Russian Liudmila Samsonova advanced to the semi-finals of the Tokyo Open by beating Spaniard Garbine Muguruza, the No 3 seed, 6-4, 6-2 at the Ariake Coliseum and Ariake Tennis Forest Park on Friday night.
Samsonova, ranked No 30, will play Chinese Shuai Zhang next.
In the previous rounds of the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament, the Russian won against Kazakh Elena Rybakina, the No 8 seed (6-2, 6-4) and Chinese Xinyu Wang (7-6 (5), 6-3).
Muguruza, ranked No 12, defeated Greek qualifier Despina Papamichail (6-4, 6-2) in the previous round of the Toray Pan Pacific Open Tennis Tournament.
