Tokyo: Tauson goes down to Kenin in second round
The American will play the winner of the match between American McCartney Kessler and Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 3 seed, in the next round
American wildcard Sofia Kenin edged out Danish lucky loser Clara Tauson 6-7 (8), 6-4, 7-6 (6) to reach the last eight of the WTA Toray Pan Pacific Open at the Ariake Coliseum on Thursday.
Kenin, ranked No 155, will play the winner of the match between American McCartney Kessler and Russian Daria Kasatkina, the No 3 seed, next.
The American won against Chinese Xinyu Wang, the No 10 seed (6-1, 6-4) in the previous round of the Tokyo tournament.
Earlier in the week, Tauson, ranked No 53, beat Japanese wildcard Nao Hibino (6-2, 6-3).
