Tokyo Open: Fernandez through to second round after Sasnovich retirement

Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 8 seed, reached the second round of the Tokyo Open when Belarusian lucky loser Aliaksandra Sasnovich retired on Monday at the Ariake Coliseum.
Fernandez, ranked No 35, led 5-7, 6-2, 5-2 when Sasnovich, ranked No 143, pulled out on Monday at the Ariake Coliseum.
The 22-year-old Canadian will play Frenchwoman Varvara Gracheva next.
