Australian Astra Sharma advanced to the quarter-finals of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy by edging out Romanian Ana Bogdan, the top seed, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 7-5 on Thursday.
Sharma, ranked No 216, will face Hungarian Anna Bondar, the No 5 seed, next.
The Australian defeated Swiss Ylena In-Albon (6-2, 6-1) ahead of her victory.
In the previous round, Bogdan, ranked No 62, won against Italian Nuria Brancaccio (5-7, 7-5, 6-3).
