Latvian Darja Semenistaja, the No 8 seed, won against Romanian wildcard Anca Alexia Todoni 7-6 (3), 6-4 to reach the last 4 of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy on Friday.
Semenistaja, ranked No 143, will play Italian Sara Errani, the No 4 seed, next.
The 20-year-old Latvian defeated Berfu Cengiz (6-2, 6-2) and edged out Romanian Irina Bara (7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (6)) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Todoni, ranked No 281, beat Frenchwoman Carole Monnet (6-3, 6-0) and Bulgarian Viktoriya Tomova, the second seed (4-6, 6-4, 6-1).
