Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, the No 3 seed, won against Argentinian Maria Lourdes Carle 7-6 (4), 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Tiriac Foundation Trophy on Saturday.
Cristian, ranked No 98, will face Australian Astra Sharma next.
The Romanian beat Swiss Lulu Sun (6-1, 6-3) and wildcard Andreea Mitu (6-1, 6-2) ahead of her victory.
In the previous rounds, Carle, ranked No 173, won against Romanian Patricia Maria Tig (4-6, 6-2, 6-2) and Spaniard Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, the No 6 seed (6-3, 6-1).
